Hildegarde Myers

104, of Janesville, WI died Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital. For the past several years she had resided at the Waterford Place Apartments  at Cedar Crest, Inc.  Hildegarde was born on January 26, 1910 in Grant County, WI to Frank and Clara (Richter) Myers, the sixth of nine children. She graduated from the Bloomington High School (1928) from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing (1931) from the University of Wisconsin course in physical therapy in 1940 and received a B.S. degree from Loyola University, Chicago. She was a veteran of World War II serving in Texas and the South Pacific from 1942 to 1946. Following service in the Army, she was employed as physical therapist in Hines Veterans Hospital, Chicago, Illinois for 3 years and then went to the New Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago as Director of Physical Therapy and as an associate professor at Northwestern University. In 1975, she retired from R.I.C. at age 65 and moved to Janesville where she has lived for the past 39 years. Hildegarde enjoyed her walking program, bridge games, reading and was a die hard Cub fan.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Krause and Marjorie Wilson, 10 nieces and nephews: James Myers, David Myers, Timothy Myers, Robert Myers, Roy Myers, John Myers, Jerry Wilson, Karen Harris, Margaret Lee and Jean Schwartzlow. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, George Myers, Alfred Myers, Roy Myers, Harley Myers, William Myers, one sister, Leone Myers, two nephews, Richard Myers and Roger Myers.
At Hildegarde’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private committal service will be held to include military honors by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621 at Milton Lawns Memorial Park.. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Society or Cedar Crest, Inc. The family is being assisted by Henke-Clarson Funeral Home.
